Hypnotherapy is a laser-focused technique that can be used to get to the root of your emotional eating issues. It works by going to the beginning of where the problem started and healing it there in the subconscious mind.
In fact, hypnosis and meditation are actually very similar. Hypnosis uses the meditative state (a relaxed state of mind).
I like to say that hypnosis is purpose-oriented meditation: we use the relaxed state to resolve deep-rooted patterns.

Willpower versus hypnotherapy
The subconscious mind is a fascinating machine and it is 100 times more powerful than our conscious mind. When you start a diet, you can consciously use willpower to stick with it.
Yet if your subconscious mind connects eating food to comfort and feeling safe, the next time you feel stressed, the first thing your mind will tell you to do is to eat to soothe those feelings.
But don’t take this as bad news -- it’s actually a great revelation!
If you are eating for any reason other than being hungry, you are emotionally eating. If you are bored, stressed, tired, sad, happy, looking for entertainment, then you are emotionally eating.
For example, when it comes to connecting comfort and happiness to eating (which a lot of us do), the origin is often times a memory of a birthday or a holiday. This is likely a time when you were centered around food and very happy. So now every time your mind is looking to recreate that feeling of happiness, it unconsciously connects it to food.
In order to have any sort of deeper habit or behavioral change in order to lose weight and become healthy, you have to work with the subconscious mind. This is where 95% of all of our functioning lies.
Does hypnotherapy for weight loss actually work?
Weight reduction is more of a mental commitment than a physical one. Most of us don’t eat simply because of our physical need for food. Think about it for a second -- do you usually eat when you're hungry or because the clock says it’s noon and it’s time for lunch?
As humans, we are used to schedules and habits. Because of this, we usually eat for lots of different reasons. This can mean that our problems with weight loss aren’t always a physical issue -- it’s more of a mental or emotional roadblock.
Once we become “triggered” by stress, or another outside force, our mind looks for the easiest way to quiet our emotional pains. Oftentimes, that means we are eating because of our emotions rather than our need for food.
As long as your subconscious mind connects safety and comfort to eating food no diet will work long term. Diets can work in the beginning, but ultimately if your mind is not on board you will gain the weight back and sometimes even more.
