The problem isn't knowing the exact steps, it's that your brain can not wrap itself around a goal that seems very abstract. If your brain can get a sense that a goal is more concrete and less in "dream" land, then the steps fall into line a lot easier.

Olympic athletes, CEO's, and even Oprah Winfrey claim to do this. It's called visualization, yet I like to call it what it really is, self hypnosis. Hypnosis is the use of imagination to get through blockages or to show the brain that another possibility or perspective is possible.

Relax your body. This allows your subconscious mind ( the natural/takes action part of your mind) to become more attentive.
First see the goal already achieved. You have received the awards and recognition and you are finished!
Then, you take the steps backwards. How did you get there? You don't have to know specifics, and interestingly enough your mind will know the steps. Watch the whole goal backwards, step by step.
This process could be easier with a hypnotherapist or life coach, yet still very achievable by yourself!
